Finger Exercises to Help with Keyboarding

Do you have any tip or suggestion on what finger exercises could I apply when touch typing to decrease muscle tension?

Hi!

Performing finger and hand exercises such as wiggling and stretching fingers, circling thumbs, pressing palms together and push, pressing fingertips of each hand together and straighten fingers while pushing, pretending to play a piano on a desk or table top, and crumpling a piece of scrap paper into a ball and squeeze it in the palm for 10 seconds each hand.

Hello, @anaisdawe!

As with any physical movement, too much can cause strain. While you should never be typing long enough to cause issues, there are ways to ensure proper posture when typing.

Sit with your feet flat on the floor and your back straight. Your shoulders should be relaxed and elbows bent no tighter than 90°. Always check that you’re holding your wrists in a neutral position, with the thumb running parallel to the forearm, the wrist bending only slightly upwards. If you feel your wrists hitting the keyboard or desk, reposition. And of course maintain healthy habits like taking typing breaks and stretching hands and fingers.
