What is the typing goal a 6th grader should achieve?

I bought Typesy for my kid and she is already doing the courses. What should her typing speed be?

Hi Maia,

For a 6th grader, 100% typing accuracy and 30 WPM is the average.

Hello, @maiaguiterrez!

I would suggest focusing on your daughter’s grasp of finger positions before worrying too much about speed. Once she has mastered that and committed typing to muscle memory, ongoing practice is all she will need to improve her WPM.

That being said, goal setting is always helpful! In setting a goal for your daughter, it may help to know a few typing statistics. In general, the average typist can type 41 WPM; typing at or above 57 WPM is deemed above average. An average typist should be maintaining an accuracy rate around 92%, about 8 mistakes per 100 words.

Of course, it is unrealistic to expect your kid to meet these goals immediately! Be patient and know that persistent practice is the only true way to improve!
