The old way of how people touch type

How did people learn keyboarding before it was taught in school?

Hi there,

Several approaches have been use to teach touch typing such as students learning from their own, printed typing drill books, previous-generation typing software, and simple online typing games.

Hello, @milenahiggs!

I personally learned how to type through just doing it. I came of age at a time when chatting over the internet was a brand new idea, and my little teen fingers couldn’t learn to type fast enough!

It wasn’t until I was an adult that I went through the process of learning to tough type formally. I was experiencing pain in my hands and wrists and knew my lack of proper posture and hand positioning when typing was causing it. Now knowing the touch typing technique, and having learned of the proper ways to hold my body, I find myself getting flare ups far less.

All that to say it was and still is entirely possible to learn keyboarding all on your own, but I don’t see why anyone would with programs like Typesy available!
