Do you know some eye exercises to avoid strain when typing?

Due to constant exposure to computers and the need to practice typing, I sometimes suffer from eye strain. How can I treat this?

Hi Ana,

An eye exercise you can do right at your desk to help give tired muscles a rest is eye rolling. Simply close your eyes, and while closed, move your eyes over to the right and pause for five seconds, then look over to the left and pause, then move your eyes up, pause, and look down and pause.

Then with your eyes still closed, slowly move them in a circular direction. Make the circle as big as you can with your eyes. Continue until you have completed five full circles. Then reverse direction and slowly make five more circles. Do this whenever your eyes feel tired. If your boss asks what you’re doing, tell him you’re exercising!

Hi Ana,

There are a couple of different things you can try to avoid eye strain. First, be sure that you are in a well-lit space. Stop and take a break every 20 minutes or so, just long enough to focus on something that is beyond your computer. If you can’t see beyond the monitor, try looking out a window. It also helps to make sure you blinking, and keeping your eyes hydrated. Lastly, check to see that you are 20-40 inches away from your monitor. Adjust the distance if it isn’t working for you.
