Average Typing Speed for Beginners

I just started typing using Typesy and am interested to know what is the standard speed of most beginners in touch typing.

Hi!

A typing speed of 35 WPM will do.

But you should not stay on this number for too long. Practice is the key!

It’s okay if it may take some time because each of us has different learning capability. Just be patient and be sure to be progressive each day.

Hello, @piamckeown!

Congratulations on taking the first step! You’ll be touch typing like a pro in no time.

Keep in mind that keyboarding ability is measured in both speed and accuracy. Typing speed is measured in the total amount of words per minute (WPM) whereas accuracy is measured as a percentage of words typed correctly or incorrectly.

To give you an idea of your ultimate goal, the average typist can type 41 WPM; typing at or above 57 WPM is deemed above average. The average typist should be maintaining an accuracy rate around 92%, about 8 mistakes per 100 words.

It is important to note that a high WPM with low accuracy is not a desirable goal; the amount of time needed to correct typing errors should be taken into account when testing a true WPM. Focus more on typing correctly rather than quickly.

Remember that consistent practice is the key to improving. Good luck and keep at it!
