How good in keyboarding should a 4th grader be?
By the end of Grade 4, students are supposed to know how to use a keyboard to write and publish one page of text—approximately 250 words—in a single sitting. In later grades, educators expect those skills to grow until by Grade 12 students can type a recommended 50 words a minute at 99% accuracy.

An average typer should be maintaining an accuracy rate around 92%, about 8 mistakes per 100 words. To improve on accuracy, students should slow their typing to focus more on typing correctly rather than quickly. As the amount of mistakes lowers, only then should students be pushing for a higher WPM. A 4th grader could probably type 20-25 words per minute.
