What is the expected speed for a 4th grader?

A 4th grader should have 90% – 100% accuracy and 20 WPM speed.

It is important to note that accuracy is just as important as speed when learning to touch type. A high WPM with low accuracy is not a desirable goal; the amount of time needed to correct typing errors should be taken into account when testing a true WPM. To improve on accuracy, learners should slow their typing to focus more on typing correctly rather than quickly. As the amount of mistakes lowers, only then should a typist be pushing for a higher WPM.

With enough practice and determination, a 4th grader can easily type at the speed they desire.
