What is preferred to use when typing, laptop or computer desktop?
Hi Amelia,
This is strictly a personal choice based on what you are more comfortable with. Some would advise you learn touch typing using the keyboard that you will use the majority of time you type, so if you do most of your typing at work on a standard PC but use a laptop for internet chat at home, try to get access to a desktop computer when you’re working on your typing studies.

Hello, @amelialilycook!
Go ahead and use whichever you prefer!
Touch typing can be taught on any keyboard, QWERTY or otherwise. However, since the core of touch typing is developing muscle memory, mastery on one keyboard will not directly transfer to another as the keys will be placed differently. For this reason I’d recommend using only one keyboard when initially learning keyboarding skills. Once you have mastered touch typing, the ability for your muscle memory to adjust fingers for typing on a new keyboard will be stronger, but in the beginning, it may be too different to switch between the two. That lack of consistency in developing muscle memory is what you’d want to avoid.
Good luck with whichever gadget you choose!
